Northeastern pulled out a close win on Sunday, defeating Georgia State 1-0 in the closing minutes of the game. Siobhan Howard's goal with just five minutes left proved to be the difference as NU went on to take the victory in Atlanta. Northeastern is now 6-10-1 on the season with a 3-6 record in conference play. Georgia State falls to 8-10-0 along with a 2-7-0 mark in conference play, last in the CAA.
Defensive play dominated the game throughout, but the Huskies came up big at the end. At the 84:05 mark, Howard dribbled around a Lady Panther defender and shot the ball into the right side of the net from 10-yards out to put the Huskies ahead. Northeastern held its ground for the final five minutes and came away the win in yet another nail-biter. Every Husky victory this season has been decided by a single goal.
Junior Annie Petrofsky got the start in goal for Northeastern, collecting 2 saves in the shutout. It was Petrofsky's first win of the season, evening her record this season at 1-1 overall. Georgia State senior goalkeeper Alexa Pasquarelli collected four saves in the net for the Lady Panthers.
The Huskies play Virginia Commonwealth this Thursday at 3 p.m. at Parsons Field.
