America East Tournament Vermont 6, Northeastern 5 (10 Innings)

The Northeastern baseball team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Vermont, 6-5, in 10 innings, ending the Huskies' season Friday night at Centennial Field in Burlington, Vt.

Vermont goes on to play Maine in the championship.

Frank Rossi of the Catamounts singled home the winning run with two outs in the 10th off of freshman Kris Dabrowiecki (6-3) to end it. Chris Marsh (3-2) gets the win for the Catamounts.

The Huskies had a 4-0 lead in the game, but blew it on walks and errors.

UVM (28-18) rallied in the seventh when senior Tim Bush booted a ground ball with a runner on second base to bring in one run. Magrass, with the bases loaded, doubled down the left field line just out of the reach of Bush to score two more and cut NU's lead to 4-3.

Dabrowiecki then came in and got what appeared to be an inning-ending groundout, but Bush misplayed the ball for his second error of the inning, allowing the tying run to score. Dabrowiecki got Jay Iannoni to strike out to stop the bleeding.

UVM went up on top, 5-4, in the eighth when Raymond Montanez hit a floater into shallow center to score Jim Chapman, who hit a line drive to first for an infield single and took second on a sacrifice bunt.

Junior Chris Emanuele had kept NU's season alive with a leadoff ninth-inning homer deep to left off of reliever Bryan Rembisz to tie the game, 5-5.

The Huskies (26-23) had broken a scoreless tie in the fifth with two runs. NU loaded the bases and scored when Serafin threw a ball in the dirt that catcher Matt Naimoli missed for a passed ball to bring home senior Miguel Paquette. Sophomore Dan Milano brought in the second run with an infield single to third base, a slow-roller that third baseman Miguel Magrass could not handle, scoring Emanuele.

In the sixth, NU added to the lead when Emanuele hit a line drive up the middle off of Rembisz to score junior Brian Nutting and freshman Mike Lyon to give the Huskies a 4-0 advantage.

However, that was the beginning of the end for the Huskies.

The Huskies end their last season in America East with a 26-23 mark and short of an America East title.
