The Northeastern field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Indiana at Sweeney Field. Lydia Schrott provided all the offense for the Hoosiers, scoring a hat trick on the afternoon.
Indiana struck first at 5:27 when Lesley Wiler set up Schrott to give the Hoosiers the early lead. The Huskies quickly got it back, though, when Jay Quinn tallied her first goal of the season at 7:31. The score was knotted at 1-1 for most of the first half until Schrott struck again at 32:24 to give Indiana a 2-1 lead at the half.
Schrott provided some insurance for IU at 58:32, scoring her third goal of the game to give the Hoosiers a 3-1 lead. Ashley Webber tried to spark a late Husky rally by scoring her second goal of the season at 66:44, but Northeastern fell short by a final score of 3-2.
"I felt like we had some real tough calls, but we have to learn to play through those," Northeastern head coach Cheryl Murtagh said. "Indiana beat us to the ball in the first half, other than that I'd give our kids credit."
The loss drops the Huskies to 1-1 on the season, while the Hoosiers finish their opening weekend at 2-0.
The Huskies next game is against Massachusetts on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in Amherst. NU returns home to Sweeney Field on Friday, Sept. 16 to face cross-town rival Boston University at 2:30 p.m.
