The women's soccer team lost their first game at the University of Denver Tournament. The University of Wyoming beat the Huskies, 4-2, in Laramie on Friday. It was the teams first loss of the season.
For the second game in a row, freshman forward Caitlin Whelan scored two goals. Her first score came at 25:57 and gave the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. Junior Kristen Kowalik assisted on the goal. After shutting out the Cowboys in the first half, NU goalie Annie Petrofsky allowed her first goal of the season at the 51 minute mark. Ashley Shepard was credited with the goal. Five minutes later Mercy Adetoye's unassisted goal gave Wyoming the lead. However, Whelan's second goal tied the game up two minutes later.
Tamika Wilson's goal at 67:15 gave Wyoming the lead and they would not lose it. Adetoye's late goal put the nail in the coffin as the Cowboys won 4-2.
Annie Petrofsky spent the entire game in goal, tallying 11 saves on 15 shots. The Wyoming goalies, Jamie Scarcliff and Ashley Shepard combinded to save two of Northeastern's four shots on goal. For the game, the Huskies were outshot 26-7.
Northeastern will play Denver at their own tournament on Sunday at 1 p.m.
