The Northeastern University women's soccer team (7-3-2, 3-1-1 CAA) came out on top of a close physical game against CAA opponent UNC Wilmington (8-4, 3-2 CAA) Friday at Parsons Field. The Huskies won the game 1-0 with a goal from junior defender Hannah Schindler.
The Huskies outshot the Seahawks 21-7 but the game was very close. Sophomore forward Caitlin Whelan narrowly missed goals early in the game, sending the ball just over the goal twice.
With two minutes left in the first half Schindler connected with the ball after a scramble in front of the goal for her first goal of the season.
The second half was physical with the two teams combining for 14 fouls. Both teams had scoring oppurtunities but no one was able to find the net and the game ended with a 1-0 Husky win.
Junior keeper Annie Petrofsky put forth another solid game, with six saves for her sixth shutout of the season.
NU is back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. when they face Georgia State (3-7-3, 0-3-1 CAA) at Parsons Field.
