Senior Jose Juan Barea scored 27 points and dished 11 assists in his final home contest to lead Northeastern to a 92-79 victory over Rider in a non-league contest played Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena. It was a milestone day for Barea as he moved into second place on Northeastern's all-time scoring list behind Reggie Lewis. Barea now has 2,190 points for his career.
After a tightly contested first half, the Huskies broke the game open with a 16-3 run over the first 6:50 led by five points and two assists from Barea. Defensively, the Huskies (15-10) stifled the Broncs, as they made just one of their first 14 field goal attempts of the half. Northeastern climbed to its largest lead of the game at 61-43 with 10:49 remaining after senior Aaron Davis buried a three off the feed from Barea.
Rider jumped right back into the contest as it posted a quick 12-4 run by burying four consecutive 3-point field goals behind a pair from Paul Johnson, to close the Husky-lead to 65-55 with 7:59 to play. That was as close as the Broncs would come, as Northeastern managed to bump its lead back to as many as 16 points in the game.
The first half was a tight battle as each team held five leads and the two were tied on nine occasions, while Northeastern managed the one-point margin heading into the half. The Broncs shot a stellar 17-of-27 (63.0 percent), while the Huskies gained their edge by hitting six 3-pointers and forcing nine Bronc turnovers.

Sophomore Shawn James scored 13 points with 11 rebounds and six blocks for his eighth double-double of the year. Senior Janon Cole finished the afternoon with 11 points and five boards, while junior Bobby Kelly netted 13 and senior Aaron Davis hit for 12 with three steals. Junior Bennet Davis also chipped in, adding nine points and seven boards in 28 minutes of action. The Huskies finished the day shooting 28-of-58 (48.3 percent) and 10-of-22 (45.5 percent) behind the arc.

The Huskies finish the regular season with a two game road swing, beginning with a CAA rematch with Delaware on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
