Northeastern 86, Towson 70

Sophomore Shawn James recorded 23 points and 11 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season and senior Aaron Davis recorded his 1,000th career point to lead Northeastern to an 86-70 victory over Towson University at the Towson Center on the final day of regular season play in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Davis, who finished the day with 13 points, becomes just the 26th player in Northeastern history to break the 1,000-point plateau in the program's 86-year history as he passed Lamont Hough (1989-93) and now stands just 14 points behind Jim Moxley (1969-72) for 25th on the all-time scoring annals.

After falling behind by two points at the break, the Huskies (17-10, 12-6 CAA) stormed out of the gates in the second with strong shooting to post a 21-12 run and build their advantage to 56-49 at 13:04 after a three by junior Adrian Martinez. They would break the lead into double-digits after another three by Martinez at 9:01 in second half. Northeastern shot 54.2 percent in the second half on a 13-of-24 effort, and were solid from the free throw line, sinking 27-of-31 (87.1 percent) on the day.

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, as the opening period featured four ties and an astounding 14 lead changes as Towson took a 37-35 advantage into the break. The Tigers shot 41.2 percent from the floor on 14-of-34 while the Huskies converted 12-of-31 for 38.7 percent shooting. Towson also connected on 6-of-16 from deep in the half, while NU hit just 4-of-15 from long.

Senior Jose Juan Barea finished the afternoon with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Northeastern, while Martinez hit three 3-pointers for nine points and junior Bennet Davis added a double-double effort with 10 points and 10 boards.. Senior Janon Cole chipped in with five points and four boards and junior Bobby Kelly ended with six points for Northeastern.

Senior Lawrence Hamm, in his final home contest, scored 25 points with 10 rebounds to lead Towson, while Dennard Abraham also added a double-double effort with 23 points and 11 rebounds, including 17 points in the second half. Freshman Tim Crossin scored five points and dished eight assists as well for the Tigers. Towson shot 28-for-74 overall, good for 37.8 percent from the floor.

The Huskies have secured the fifth seed in the CAA conference tournament and will take on 12th seed James Madison on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
