The women's soccer team dropped a physical 1-0 game to Virginia Commonwealth Friday at Parsons Field. The Huskies drop to 2-9-3 with the loss and the injuries continue to pile up as NU finished the first half with 10 players on the field when Emily Winkler was hurt at the end of the first period.
The first half was a scoreless battle, with only two Northeastern shots and five for VCU. The Huskies best opportunity came when Liza Rebello was one step ahead of a pass from Hannah Schindler and couldn't get anything on the shot.
The Huskies played the final two minutes of the half a player down when Winkler was hurt and the team was out of available substitutions. The Huskies were able to put 11 players back on the field in the second half but the physical match proved to be too much for the depleted team.
In the 48th minute VCU midfielder Megan Flanagan scored off a corner kick to give the Rams the go ahead goal. Her corner kick curled in to NU goalie Annie Petrofsky who was able to tip the ball but not enough to keep it from scoring.
The Huskies play another home game Sunday against James Madison at 1 p.m.
