The Huskies claimed a decisive 5-0 win over the Dartmouth Big Green at Chase field in Hanover, NH. The Huskies got on the board within the first ten minutes of the game, with freshman midfielder Kaela Barker finding the net on an assist from Carolyn Malloy. The goal is Barker's first of the season. She has three points so far in 2008.
Dartmouth kept the pressure on Northeastern following Barker's goal, with Kelly Hood and Ashley Hines firing seven first half shots between them. Hines almost tied the game at one when her shot beat Northeastern goaltender Colleen Duffy, but the ball hit the post and the Huskies kept the lead.
Ashley Bascetta extended that lead shortly before halftime, scoring her first goal of the season to make the score 2-0 Northeastern. The goal was unassisted.
The Huskies added to their lead early in the second half, with Sophomore forward Meg Sweeney scoring in the period's first minute. The goal was Sweeney's first of the season. and was assisted by Carolyn Malloy. The assist was Malloy's first fn the season.
Malloy put the game out of reach with two goals in the final ten minutes of the second half. With six points on two goals and two assists in the contest, she leads all Northeastern players in points with ten through four games.
Senior goalkeeper Colleen Duffy made four saves on the way to her second shutout of the season.
The Huskies return to Sweeney Field Friday to host Quinnipiac at 2 p.m.
