Devin Petta scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season as the Huskies defeated Towson 2-0 on Friday. It was Northeastern's first-ever win at the Towson Center Soccer Complex.
Northeastern's scoring started early, when Petta scored a rocket from 20 yards out that found the upper-left corner of the net only 1:57 into the match. After 45 minutes, the Huskies remained in the lead. Towson had tallied more shots (8-5), though Northeastern lead 3-1 in shots on goal.
The Tigers racheted up the intensity in the second half, firing 14 shots, but just three on net. In the 84th minute, Petta struck again to seal the game, on a breakaway from
Sandra Magnusdottir's pass. It was Magnusdottir's third assist of the season.
Goalkeeper
Stephanie Gordon stopped all six shots for her fifth shutout of the season, as the Huskies went on to win 2-0. Gordon now has 12 carreer shutouts, ranking her second all-time at Northeastern.
With the win, the Huskies advanced to 7-2-1 (2-0-1 CAA) on the year, as Towson dropped to 5-6-1 (1-2-0 CAA).
