Tina Charles had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead six players in double-figures No. 1 Connecticut beat Northeastern 105-35 on Saturday at Gampel Pavilion in the first regular season contest for both teams.

Charles scored the first six points of the contest as UConn opened up the game on a 28-0 run going 11-of-13 from the floor until a Rachael Pecota three pointer at the 14:06 mark put the Huskies on the board. Connecticut continued to apply the pressure holding Northeastern to just 4-of-25 from the field and forcing 11 turnovers while shooting 68.3 percent. Four of Connecticut's five starters reached double-figures by halftime as UConn took a 69-15 lead into the locker room. Pecota and Kim Carr led the Huskies with five points apiece in the first half.

The Huskies opened up the scoring in the second half with a three-pointer from Brittany Wilson, but Connecticut responded with a 11-0 run over 7:19 to take a 81-18 lead before Kashaia Cannon intercepted a pass and went in for a fast-break layup to break the drought. The Huskies' offense showed signs of life as Cannon and Dani Iervolino hit consecutive three-pointers in a span of 27 seconds, but Connecticut came out of the media timeout on a 9-3 run over 4:10 until a Kim Carr basket put Northeastern back on the scoresheet. Connecticut's defense would stymie Northeastern for the remainder of the game holding the Huskies without a field goal and outscoring Northeastern 15-5 to end the game.

Northeastern was held to 19.3 percent for the game, while UConn converted 42-of-70 shots for the game.

Pecota led Northeastern with 10 points in her Huskies debut, while Cannon and Carr had seven each. Maya Moore had 18 points and 10 rebounds while Tiffany Hayes (14), Kalana Greene (13) Caroline Doty (10) and Meghan Gardler (10) rounded out the scoring for Connecticut.

Northeastern returns to action on Wednesday Nov. 18 as it takes on Delaware State at 5:30 p.m.
