Huskies overpower Quinnipiac, 3-1

Box score

Goals from Pam Aldridge, Kaela Barker and Crystal Poland helped the Northeastern University Huskies to a 3-1 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Complex on Friday.

The Huskies thoroughly dominated the affair, outshooting the Bobcats by a 27-5 count, including a 14-0 margin in the first half.

Aldridge opened the scoring with her first goal of the season at the 25:36 mark of the first half. Taking advantage of the space afforded to her by the Quinnipiac defense, Aldridge dribbled the ball to the top of the arc and fired a laser past Quinnipiac keeper Jenna Grossman to give the Huskies the lead.

Barker doubled the advantage early in the second half with a shot through traffic from the right side.

Quinnipiac did not go quietly, however. Less than two minutes after Barker's goal, senior Bonnie Shea cut the Husky lead in half with a strike off a penalty corner.

The Northeastern defense took over from there. Over the final 21 minutes, the Husky D did not allow a shot on goal as Quinnipiac desperately tried to tie the game.

With just 19 seconds to play, the Huskies salted the game away for good as Poland beat Grossman off a feed from junior Meg Sweeney.

The Huskies return to action this Sunday at 2 p.m. against Boston University at Sweeney Field.
