Gabriela Marginean and Kamile Nacickaite combined to score 68 points to lead Drexel past Northeastern 91-84 in an overtime nail biter at Solomon Court on Thursday evening. The Huskies were led by
Brittany Wilson's double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds while
Deanna Kerkhof scored a career-high 19 points.
Marginean scored 28 of her game-high 41 points in the second half and overtime to help the Dragon usurp the Huskies, who led by as many as 10 with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.
The first half saw Northeastern pull out to a seven point lead, but Drexel closed out the half strong hitting three 3-pointers in the final 5:52 of the half to take a 34-33 lead at halftime.
Both teams would trade leads five times in the first 6:15 of the second half until Kerkhof hit one of her three 3-pointers in the game to give Northeastern a 44-43 lead. The Huskies then used a 9-2 run to push the lead to 10 points off a Wilson jumper with just under 10 minutes left. Marginean came alive for Drexel scoring 15 down the stretch, including a lay up for the lead with 22 seconds left to whittle down the 10-point margin.
Kashaia Cannon hit a driving lay up with nine seconds remaining for Northeastern to knot the game at 75-all and force overtime; the fifth time this season for the Huskies.
Both teams shot a very high percentage from the floor with Drexel converting 12-of-25 shots (60 percent) and Northeastern holding its own shooting 14-of-25 (56 percent).
Drexel's Jasmina Rosseel hit a three just six seconds into overtime and gave the Dragons the lead for good and ended the game on a 7-2 run while the Huskies could only come within two before Drexel responded with a basket.
Nacickaite added 27 for Drexel while Rosseel ended with 11 points as the Dragons shot 56.1 from the floor and 95.2 percent from the free throw line.
Wilson's 25 points came on 10-of-22 shooting while Kerkhof connected on 6-of-10 shots, including 3-of-6 from three.
Kendra Walton added 14 points for Northeastern. Cannon scored nine points for the Huskies who ended the game shooting 47.7 percent.
Drexel improves to 13-6 overall and 7-1 in the CAA. Northeastern drops to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in league play.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday, January 31 taking on George Mason at 2 p.m.
