The Northeastern men's soccer team ended Saturday's game against UNC Wilmington in a draw, following a double overtime match that featured the Huskies outshooting the Seahawks, 28-13.
The Huskies go to 4-5-3 on the season while the Seahawks go to 7-4-2.
Even with the Huskies outshooting UNCW by 15 shots they were still unable to knock off the defending CAA
champions.
“For our team, this was the biggest loss of the year,” said head coach
Brian Ainscough.
Seahawk's keeper Brandon Miller was phenomenal on the day making 12 saves, and denying the Huskies on every scoring opportunity.
Junior
Mike Kennedy led the way for the Huskies with five shots on goal.
The game heavily favored the Huskies, with them controlling the ball for the entirety of the game and allowing the Seahawks minimal scoring chances.
The Huskies defense was excellent on the day, often breaking up the play in the midfield and not allowing touches around the box.
Sophomore
Oliver Blum continued his stellar play in net posting his fourth shutout of the season, making five saves on the day.
Northeastern had hoped to avenge last season's, 1-0, loss to UNCW, however was unable to do so in front of their home crowd despite the abundance of shots on goal.
The two overtime periods had fans on their feet, hoping one of the Huskies' eight shots during extra time would allow them to go home with a victory.
In the game's 103rd minute
Brendan Ennis hit the crossbar on a header off
Laurence Braude's corner kick, which summarizes the many missed scoring chances for the Huskies on the day.
“How bad we were in the first half is as good as we were in the second half,” said Ainscough. “And we were bad in the first half.”
