The Northeastern women's soccer team earned its first win under head coach Tracey Leone in shutout fashion, defeating Bryant, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium in Smithfield, R.I.

The Huskies struck first, with Preseason CAA Player of the Year and sophomore forward Devin Petta notching her first goal of the season in the 14th minute.

NU kept the pressure up throughout the first half, as junior midfielder Gabbi Jatkola dribbled around a defender and punched in her first goal of the season in the 44th minute.

Before the Bulldogs could attempt a comeback in the second half, NU struck again in the 56th minute, as sophomore forward Greta Samuelsdottir netted her first goal of the season on an assist from Rhode Island native and junior forward Veronica Napoli.

Sophomore Michelle Sopko got her first career start in net for the Huskies, and was only tested with four shots to record the shutout. She made two saves in the victorious effort. Sophomore Kelsi Jacob started in net for the Bulldogs and recorded three saves.

The Huskies dominated the shot totals for the game, outshooting the Bulldogs 14-4. Napoli led the charge for NU with four shots, while four different Bulldogs recorded one shot each. Petta made Jacob work throughout the afternoon, leading NU with three shots on goal.

Bryant had six corner kicks to NU's one, but failed to capitalize on any of its chances.

Nineteen different Huskies saw action in the contest. Only Sopko and Preseason All-CAA defender Sandra Magnusdottir were required to play the full 90 minutes.

With the win, Northeastern moves to 1-1 on the season. Bryant falls to 0-2 with the loss.
The Huskies continue their Ocean State road trip on Sunday at 1 p.m., to combat Rhode Island in Kingston.
