Jose Juan Barea paces Puerto Rico at FIBA World Championship

Former Northeastern star Jose Juan Barea guided Puerto Rico at the 2010 FIBA World Championship this summer. Barea lead his squad in numerous categories including points, field goals made, free throws made, and minutes played. Barea averaged 16.8 points per game during Puerto Rico's five-game run in the tournament.

Barea reached the 20-point plateau in the team's first two games dropping 25 against Russia and 20 against Greece. During the tightly-contested game against China, Barea went 5-11 from the floor while scoring 13 points. Turkey played stifling defense against, holding Barea to only seven shots in the game, Barea went 3-7 for seven points against Turkey. In the final game against the Ivory Coast, Barea netted 19 points.

Puerto Rico was eliminated from the FIBA World Championship after finishing fifth in Group C while going 1-4. Puerto Rico defeated China 84-76 for their lone win of the tournament.

Barea is set to begin his fifth NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks after leaving Northeastern as one of its most prolific scorers of all time. Barea finished second all-time in scoring and currently has a 6.3 point-per-game average in the NBA and this season, Barea should eclipse the 1,500 point mark.
