Northeastern Welcomes Eight Newcomers To 2025-26 Roster

BOSTON – Northeastern men's basketball coach Bill Coen announced the addition of eight student-athletes to his 2025-26 roster on Thursday. The group includes three transfers (Xander Alarie (Miami), Haris Elezovic (West Virginia), Mike Loughnane (Davidson)) and five freshmen (Xavier Abreu, Ty Francis, Liam Koelsch, Miles Newton, Petar Pinter).
 
Xavier Abreu  |  Guard  |  6-3  |  184  |  Lynn, Mass.  |  Phillips Academy - Andover
Attended Phillips Academy, where he averaged 26.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and three assists per game while shooting 52.2% from the floor, 38% from three and 86% from the line during the 2024-25 season. He was a two-time NEPSAC Class A First Team selection in addition to serving as team captain and was a Press Club Award honoree. In Summer 2025, he won the A Shot For Life (ASFL) Challenge, an event to raise money for cancer research, and earn the title of the Best Shooter in Massachusetts. His father, Alvin, played collegiately at New Hampshire before playing professionally overseas. Intends to major in Finance at Northeastern.

Comes to Northeastern with four years of eligibility after redshirting the 2024-25 season at Miami. Alarie attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School, where he was a two-time All-MAC Selection (2022-23 and 2023-24) and averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game as a senior. During his senior season, he helped St. Andrew's to a 22-9 overall record and was tabbed Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention after averaging 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks as a junior in 2022-23. He also played for Global Squad UAA in 2022-23. His father, Mark Alarie, played at Duke and was a first-round NBA draft pick in 1986, while his sister, Bella, played four years at Princeton and was drafted fifth overall by Dallas Wings in 2020 WNBA Draft.

Arrives at Northeastern with one year of eligibility remaining after spending the 2024-25 season at West Virginia. He played 13 games with the Mountaineers last season, averaging 4.2 minutes per game in limited action. Elezovic attended Laval University in Laval, Quebec in 2023-24, where he started 29 of 31 games, averaging 12.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting 45% percent from the field to help lead Laval to the U Sports national championship. He also spent two seasons at McGill University starting 72 of the 77 games he played and recording 906 points (11.8ppg) and 727 rebounds (9.4rpg). Will be pursuing a graduate certificate in project management at Northeastern.

Attended The Hotchkiss School, where he was a Second Team All-Founders League honoree. Francis also attended Nazareth Regional High School, where he averaged 5.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 10 contests during the 2023-24 season. Intends to major in Finance at Northeastern.

Attended Bishop O'Connell High School in 2024-25, where he was a McDonald's All American Game East Nominee after averaging 7.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Helped West Potomac High School to the regional championship during the 2023-24 season. Intends to major in Computer Science and Mathematics at Northeastern.
 
Mike Loughnane  |  Guard  |  6-4  |  182  |  Quincy, Mass.  |  Phillips Exeter Academy  |  Davidson (Atlantic 10)
Played 44 games in two seasons (2023-25) at Davidson, averaging 4.2 points per game and shooting 45% from the floor. As a sophomore in 2024-25, he appeared in 33 games (32 starts), finishing fifth on the team in scoring (5.1ppg). Loughnane, who averaged 23.8 minutes per game last season, reached double figures four times including a career-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting against Richmond. Loughnane also recorded 77 assists (fourth on the team), shot 44% overall and 38% from three-point range in 2024-25. Loughnane was a three-time captain and is the all-time leading scorer at Boston College High School, where he helped them to a 2022 Massachusetts state championship before being named the 2022 Maxpreps Massachusetts Player of the Year. His father, Bill, played at Northeastern from 1976-80 while his brother played basketball at Saint Anselm.
 
Miles Newton  |  Guard  |  6-3  |  204  |  Eden Prairie, Minn.  |  Breck School 
Was a four-year letterwinner at the Breck School, helping the program to the MSHSL AA State championship and a third place finish in 2025. He scored 1000 points during his career and was named the IMAC Player of the Year as a senior in 2024-25. Newton also earned MSHSL All-State Tournament Team honors in both 2024 and 2025, and was named IMAC All-Conference Honorable during both seasons after helping Breck School to a pair of conference championships. Newton was named CCX Sports All-Area Boys Basketball during 2024-25. His father played basketball at Kansas, helping the Jayhawks to the 1988 national championship before playing professionally overseas, while his sister recently completed her collegiate swimming career at Lafayette. He intends to major in Business at Northeastern.
 
Petar Pinter  |  Center  |  6-11  |  202  |  Nikšic, Montenegro  |  Gimnazija Stojan Cerovic
Competed for Montenegro at the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B, appearing in seven games. He also played in six games at the 2024 FIBA U18 EuroBasket Division B, helping Montenegro to a fifth place finish. He intends to major in Business at Northeastern.
