Despite outshooting Old Dominion in the second half, the Huskies were unable to overcome two first half goals and lost their CAA season opener, 2-0.

Northeastern moves to 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in the CAA while Old Dominion improves to 3-6 and 1-0 in the CAA.

Maarje van Rijswijk scored both goals for the Lady Monarchs just seven minutes apart. The first goal came at the 13:21 mark when she potted a rebound off a Paige Clutter shot. Then, at the 20:37 mark, van Rijswijk found the back of the net again when she took a Kathryn Kirk pass and beat sophomore goaltender Lizzie Priest. The goals were van Rijswijk's first two goals of the year.

Northeastern battled back in the second half, outshooting Old Dominion, 5-2, and earned three penalty corners. However, Lady Monarchs goaltender Devon Seifert made six saves, including three in the second half, to earn her first career shutout in just her third career start.

Priest made four saves while sophomore forward Crystal Poland registered four of the Huskies' 11 shots.

The Huskies will look to rebound on Sunday, Sept. 26 when William & Mary comes to Sweeney Field. Game time is set for 2 p.m. and fans can catch all the live action on GoNU.TV.
