The Northeastern women's soccer team continued to roll on Friday, defeating Brown, 1-0, in the first game of the Nike Invitational Tournament in Hanover, N.H.

The game's lone goal came off the foot of junior forward Veronica Napoli, on assists from sophomore forward Greta Samuelsdottir and second-year defender Marcela Bedoya. Napoli's goal came on a blast from the top of the box after a defensive deflection.

Napoli's goal is her second in as many games, as she scored the first goal for the Huskies win against URI last Sunday. Napoli and Samuelsdottir are both now on three-game point streaks.

Samuelsdottir and Napoli led the Huskies with three shots apiece. The only other Huskies to fire a shot were junior Erin McGaffigan and Bedoya, each with one.

Napoli was also the Huskies most accurate shooter of the match, as all three of her attempts were on goal. Samuelsdottir and Bedoya also registered a shot on goal each.

Sophomore Michelle Sopko started in net for the Huskies and recorded six saves to notch her second shutout in her last three games. Amber Bledsoe started in goal for Brown and saved one shot in the first half. MC Barrett relieved Bledsoe at halftime and stopped the three shots on goal she faced.

Despite being outshot 14-8 and outfouling the Bears 10-3 on the match, the Huskies were able to hold on and survive any advances Brown attempted.

With the win, Northeastern advances its winning streak to three games and move to 3-1. Brown falls to 0-1 after their first match of the season.

Northeastern next match is against Dartmouth on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. With a win, the Huskies would assure themselves at least a share of the tournament title. Live stats for the game will be available.
