George Mason forward Ryan Pearson scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Patriots to an 86-60 win over Northeastern in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Matthews Arena. Sophomore guards Jonathan Lee and Joel Smith each netted 16 points for the Huskies.

Rookie guard Alex Harris reached double figures as well with 12 points and six assists for the Huskies (4-12, 0-5 CAA). Smith grabbed four rebounds to tie senior guard Chaisson Allen for the team lead and made two steals to match Harris for the team high.

Senior guard Cam Long poured in 20 points and junior guard Andre Cornelius added 11 for the Patriots (11-5, 3-2 CAA), while sophomore forward Luke Hancock dished 10 assists.

The Patriots controlled the game from start to finish, getting on the board first with a three-pointer Pearson and never relinquishing the lead. A Pearson layup capped an 11-1 run to open the game for George Mason. The Huskies came back within five after Lee hit a three and Northeastern's Ryan Pierson followed with a layup to cut the George Mason lead to 14-9 with 11:50 to go in the first half.

The Patriots built the lead again from there, with senior guard Cam Long knocking down a three in the final minute of the first half to send George Mason into the locker room with a 43-26 halftime lead.

The Huskies got back within 14 after an Allen layup early in the second half, but a 7-0 spurt followed for Mason and the Patriots built their lead to 32 when a Hancock bucket put George Mason up, 68-36, with 8:10 to go.

George Mason shot 67.3 percent (33-of-49) from the field, including 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc, distancing themselves from Northeastern's solid 50 percent (22-of-44) field-goal shooting. The Patriots held a 28-18 advantage in rebounding.

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday at noon, visiting VCU for a CAA matchup that will be televised live from Richmond, Va., on CSN New England.
