BURLINGTON, Vt. - After
Lori Antflick tied the game, 1-1, with 2:08 remaining in the third period,
Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored with 1:16 left in overtime to give Northeastern a dramatic 2-1 victory over Vermont on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid. Northeastern finished the season 2-0-1 against Vermont and held the Catamounts to just three goals over the three-game season series.
Leah Sulyma was sharp between the pipes as she stopped 30 shots en route to her third victory in as many starts. Roxanne Douville made 31 saves for Vermont.
Antflick has lit the lamp now in three of the last five games. For Wohlfeiler, the overtime winner was her third game-winning tally of the season.
After the teams skated to a scoreless first period, the Catamounts took a 1-0 lead thanks to Chelsea Rapin's third goal of the season at 7:10 of the second stanza.
Antflick's heroics came late in the third when she deposited her fifth goal of the season.
Kristi Kehoe and
Sonia St. Martin added the assists.
The Huskies ended the game when Wohlfeiler took a pass from
Katie MacSorley and beat Douville for her fifth goal of the season.
Rachel Llanes also assisted on the strike. MacSorley now has an assist in each of the last two games.
Northeastern was outstanding on the penalty kill, stopping all seven Catamount chances. It matches the Huskies' season-best total of killing 7-of-7 penalties. Northeastern last did that against Maine on Nov. 12.
A stern test awaits the Huskies on Sunday, Jan. 30, as Northeastern travels to Chestunut Hill, Mass. to take on No. 8 Boston College. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
