Dartmouth Relays Results
The Northeastern women's track and field team turned in a sublime second-place effort at the Dartmouth Relays this past weekend, totaling 90.5 points to top 20 other squads, including 10 collegiate squads, in Hanover, N.H.
Northeastern put on a clinic in the field, rounding up four winning performances, including a sweep in the throws by senior
Althea Charles, a long jump triumph from junior
Nia Howard and a triple jump crown by rookie
Georgia Pingue.
Charles tallied a season-best throw if 13.58m (44'6.75) in the shot put, besting her nearest competitor by almost three feet. The West Orange, N.J. native also notched a season-long hurl in the 20-lb. weight throw, clearing 18.29m (60'00.25), almost five feet past the second-place finisher.
Howard's first contest donning the Northeastern top resulted in a long jump victory with a mark of 5.49m (18'00.25) while Pingue picked up 10 points for the Huskies with a season-best combination of 11.60m (38'00.75).
Sophomore
Jillena Decarteret matched a season-best with an ECAC-qualifying spring of 3.65m (11'11.75) in the pole vault for second place while senior
Ashley Furlong took sixth with a mark of 3.05m (10'0).
Finishing up with the throwing events, sophomore
Julia Westover claimed eighth in the shot put with a clearance of 11.79m (38'8.25) while classmate
Rachel Taback picked up 10th place with a heave of 11.37m (37'3.75). Westover also collected a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.13m (52'11) while Taback was seventh with a finish of 14.15m (46'5.25).
Rookie
Olivia Stevens joined Pingue in the triple jump and notched a ninth-place finish of 10.64m (34'11).
Turning to the track, Northeastern gathered a pair of second and third place finishes to compliment the performance in the field.
Junior
Saleena Abdur-Rashed turned in a final time of 8.78 for second place in the 60-meter hurdles while the 4 x 200-metr relay team of
Sarah Trotman,
Sepanta Padrah-Vajdy, Howard and Abdur-Rashed finished in second, as well, with a collective time of 1:44.29. Howard notched a third-place mark of 7.86 in the 60-meter dash while sophomore Nikki Cuhna's 400-meter dash time of 59.23 was also good for third.
Padrah-Vajdy closed out NU's efforts in the 60-meter dash a seventh-place time of 8.06. Freshman
Camille Henry finished the 400-meter run with a 12th-place beat of 63.54.
In the mile, seniors
Seri Gordon and
Jess Barton tallied respective times of 5:12.51 and 5:22.70 for 12th and 18th place. In the 3,000-meter challenge, veterans
Kristen Martin and
Meegan Joly turned in a 10th place and 13th place mark of 10:36.73 and 10:43.97, in that order.
A pair of tracksters in rookie
Ally Crooke and junior
Ida Cance took park in the pentathlon at Dartmouth, marking the first pentathlon competition for any Husky this season. Crooke turned in a second-place effort of 2,920 points in the first of seven challengers while Cance finished in sixth with an aggregate of 2,393.
Crooke's second-place performance was fueled by a win in the long jump (5.31m – 17'5.25) and a third-place mark if 8.39m (27;6.5) in the shot put. Cance's strongest showing came in the form of a pair of third-place finishes in the high jump (1.55m – 5'1) and long jump (4.80m – 15'9), respectively.
The Huskies will now make their way to New Haven, Conn. on Saturday, Jan. 15 to take part in the Yale Invitational.
