Track & Field Travels For Raleigh Relays And UMass Flagship First Meet

BOSTON — Following a successful start to the outdoor season, the Northeastern track and field team returns to action on Thursday, March 26. A medley of distance runners take on the Raleigh Relays, hosted by N.C. State, at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility, spanning over three days. Another group of Huskies will be competing in Amherst on Saturday, March 28 in the UMass Flagship First meet at the UMass Track & Field Complex.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

  1. STARTING STRONG — Northeastern started strong at the UCF Gold & Black Invitational last weekend with freshman Matthew St. Cyr leading the field events with a personal-best 61.82m javelin throw, placing third and moving to fifth all-time in program history, while junior Hannah Shaw, freshman Carter Engelman, and senior Leila Curtis also posted strong performances. On the track, freshman Aiden Ray, junior Savannah Blair, and junior Brunner Williams each recorded top finishes with times that rank among the program's all-time bests in their respective events. The weekend concluded with additional solid sprint efforts, highlighted by Blair's ninth-place finish in the 100m and a ninth-place result from the men's 4x400 relay team.
  2. RELAY RECAP FROM LAST YEAR — The Huskies return to the Raleigh Relays again, looking to make their mark on one of the biggest stages. In last year's attempt at the Raleigh Relays, sophomore Nico Boyle and junior Ryan Sarney opened competition posting times of 14:40.52 in the 5000m and 30:55.47 in the 10000m, respectively. Nicole Dunbury led the Huskies with a personal-best 4:23.37 in the 1500m, winning her section and moving to third on the program's all-time outdoor list and senior Conall Rogers closed out the weekend with a 1:56.02 finish in the 800m.
  3. MAKING AN EARLY MARK — After the first weekend of competition, the Northeastern track and field team has several athletes in the top 50 NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List. Junior Brunner Williams leads the men, ranking 23rd in the 200m (20.99m). Others include graduate student freshman Aiden Ray in the 400 hurdles (53.21m, 27th), freshman Matthew St.Cyr in the javelin (61.82m, 29th) and the quad of Felton III, Ray, Williams and Berry in the 4x400 relay (3:14.63, 30th).
