Women's soccer defeated the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs, 4-0, on Friday night at Parsons Field, moving to 8-6-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in the CAA.

In a match between two teams tied in conference standings, Northeastern played possibly its best match of the year.

Battling heavy rain, the Huskies put pressure on Old Dominion early. Forward Veronica Napoli pushed a shot wide left of an open net on a feed from Greta Samuelsdottir.

Napoli would get another chance in the 21st minute, and this time, buried it past the Lady Monarch goalkeeper to put the Huskies up, 1-0. Senior defender Laura Holmstedt delivered a perfect lob through to spring Napoli on the rush.

Northeastern pushed its advantage to 2-0 when the Old Dominion goalkeeper bobbled a ball in the box. Napoli took the ball, raced by, and tallied her second of the game in the 41st minute. Her two goals give her a team-leading nine on the year.

The Huskies extended their lead to three sixteen seconds into the second half. Kirby Anderson pushed a through ball by the Lady Monarch defense to Samuelsdottir who had space on the left side of the box. Samuelsdottir calmly sliced a shot past the goalkeeper for her sixth marker on the season.

In the 54th minute, Napoli dribbled her way through three defenders and found freshman Lahaina Zoller in the middle of the box. Zoller put the shot past the keeper for her second tally on the year to put Northeastern up by a comfortable four to nothing advantage.

A lightning strike caused a 59 minute delay in action before Northeastern closed out Old Dominion with solid defense.

Freshman goalkeeper Paige Burnett recorded the fourth shutout of her collegiate career, making five saves in the winning effort. The Huskies outshot Old Dominion, 21-12.

Northeastern takes on No. 21 William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
