The Northeastern women's track & field team concluded the 2011 CAA Track & Field Championship in third place after totaling 100.5 points as Georgia State captured its first title on Saturday at SportsBackers Stadium hosted by VCU.

The senior duo of Althea Charles and Seri Gordon paced the Huskies' third-place showing by capturing crowns in their respective events of the hammer throw and 800-meter run. Northeastern also sported a trio of runners-up and two third-place finishes.

On Friday, Charles registered a conference-meet record of 58.36m to top the previous CAA meet record of 57.15m set by East Carolina's Michelle Clayton in 1999. The West Orange, N.J. native became Northeastern's first-ever two-time winner in the hammer throw at the CAA Championship. Charles captured last year's event with a mark of 54.73m.

On Saturday, Gordon edged Delaware's Lindsay Prettyman by 19-hundredths of a second for the victory, lapping the oval twice and crossing the line in 2:13.52.

Charles followed up Friday's performance with a second-place pitch of 13.95m in the shot put, missing out on her second title of the weekend by 0.02m (Yolanda Berryhill – 13.97m).

Sophomore Jillena Decarteret and senior Heather Crocker were Northeastern's other second-place finishers, each staking claim to eight points in their respective events of the pole vault and javelin throw. Decarteret cleared 3.98m while Crocker's heave of 39.37m was good enough for second, as well.

Following a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter preliminaries on Friday, junior tri-captain Saleena Abdur-Rashed collected six points with her third-place jaunt of 13.90 in the 100-meter hurdles. The Bronx, N.Y. native's time stands as the fourth fastest in Huskies' outdoor history.

Sophomore Julia Westover joined Charles on the hammer throw podium on Friday, notching a third-place finish after a throw of 50.58m.

The Huskies presented five more point scorers in the field on Saturday thanks to the leaping efforts of sophomore Ida Cance and rookies Olivia Stevens and Georgia Pingue. Cance tied with Towson's Ashley Dabney for sixth place and 2.50 points in the high jump with a clearance of 1.61m. Stevens strung together a fourth-place combo of 11.58m worth five points in the triple jump while Pingue logged two more with a seventh-place effort of 11.39m. In the discus throw, sophomore Rachel Taback picked up five points with a fourth-place pitch of 41.66m while Charles earned four points with a fifth-place showing of 41.12m.

Back on the oval, sophomore Christiana Gallagher finished fifth in the 800-meter run to bestow NU with four more points while classmate Laura Coyne passed into Saturday's 1,500-meter final. The Freehold, N.J. native improved upon Friday's qualifying time by nearly four seconds and finished in seventh place (4:45.59) with two points in the final event.

Freshman Katie Barrett pulled through for Northeastern by running in her first collegiate steeplechase event and was able to muster one point with an eight-place finish of 11:40.00.
