The Northeastern women's soccer team defeated the Rhode Island Rams Friday evening at Parsons Field, 2-0, pushing its record to 4-4-0 on the season. Senior forward Veronica Napoli scored twice, breaking the all-time Husky goals and points records.

Senior forward Veronica Napoli put the Huskies on top, 1-0, in the 36th minute. It was Napoli's fourth goal on the season, and the 30th of her career, the all-time program record. The goal also gave her 73 career points, also tying the program's all-time points record.

Junior forward Hanna Terry registered her second assist of the season on Napoli's goal, lobbing it down the field from the Husky defensive zone past the Rhode Island defense.

The Huskies continued to pressure Rhode Island in the second half. Junior forward Greta Samuelsdottir had a goal from the far left wing negated by an offsides call with just under 33 minutes remaining in regulation. Samuelsdottir missed wide to the right just a minute later on an offensive rush.

Napoli notched her place in the Husky record books when she scored her second goal of the night, unassisted, in the 59th minute. It was her fifth goal of the season and the 31st of her career, placing her atop the all-time Northeastern goal-scoring list.

The goal gave her 75 career points, placing her atop the program's all-time points list as well.

Napoli moved ahead of Kristin Kowalik (2003-06) in both career goals and points.

The Huskies played stout defense the rest of the way, solidifying freshman goalkeeper Paige Burnett's second career collegiate shutout.

Northeastern outshot Rhode Island, 20-3, and outshot the Rams, 13-1, in the second half. Napoli recorded seven shots on the night while Kirby Anderson and Samuelsdottir registered three each.

Both teams had 17 fouls apiece throughout the gritty match.

Women's soccer returns to action next Friday, Sept. 23 when they take on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams at Parsons Field. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
