BOSTON, Mass., Jan. 14, 2012 -- Joel Smith scored a game-high 14 points and freshman Quincy Ford tallied his first career double-double as the Northeastern men's basketball team earned its third consecutive win on Saturday, defeating William & Mary, 64-50, at Matthews Arena. With the victory, the Huskies now are 4-2 in CAA play and 8-8 overall, and have won five of their last six contests.

Northeastern closed the first half on an 8-0 run to tie the game at halftime. The Huskies then grabbed control of the game with a 14-4 run to open the second half and never looked back.

Continuing his strong rookie season, Ford finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies. The Florida native now has scored in double figures in seven of his last 11 games. Junior co-captain Jonathan Lee added 12 points, while rookie Reggie Spencer scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory.

Quinn McDowell paced the Tribe (4-14, 2-4) with 13 points on the afternoon. Brandon Britt also tallied double figures with 10 points.

Northeastern never trailed over the final 20 minutes, outscoring conference foe William & Mary 37-23 in the second half. The visitors cut the gap to seven points at 49-42 with 7:23 to play, but that was the closest they would come.

The Huskies trailed for virtually the entire opening half, falling behind by as many as nine points at 22-13 after the first 13:17 of play. Finishing the period on a 14-5 run, however, Northeastern erased the deficit with a buzzer-beating jumper by Smith, which squared the contest at 27-27 heading into the locker room. Smith led the home side with 8 points, while Brandon Britt matched that total with eight of his own for the visitors over the opening 20 minutes.

Though neither team shot the ball particularly well from the field, Northeastern outscored the Tribe, 26-16, in the paint and capitalized on its free throw opportunities by going 21-of-26 from the line (80.8 percent).

Northeastern will now look to extend its winning streak to four games when it plays host to league-leader Georgia State on Wed., Jan 18, at 7 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
