Last time out
Andre Ciliotta's goal 31 seconds into the second OT was the difference as Northeastern defeated Hofstra (9-4-1, 3-3-0) in a thrilling match on Wednesday at Parsons, 1-0.
Ciliotta scored off a crossing pass from
Don Anding on the right side in the opening minute of the second overtime following a feed from
Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave for Ciliotta's first goal of the season.
The series with UNCW
NU is 3-4-2 all-time against the Seahawks, including ties in each of the past two seasons. NU last defeated UNCW in 2008 before knocking the Seahawks out of the CAA Tournament on penalty kicks later that season.
Anding having a season to remember
In 13 matches this season, senior forward
Don Anding has nearly matched his point production from his first three years with the Huskies. The Amity Harbor, N.Y. has 23 points this season, including a six-point week last week to earn CAA Co-Player of the Week honors.
Anding leads the CAA in points and is tied for second in goals, assists and game-winning goals. He has a point in six of his last seven matches, is tied for fourth on the NU record list for career goals (20), and tied for sixth in career points (50).
Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW visits Parsons Field following a 2-1 win against Georgia State on Wednesday. Jamie Dell and Nathaniel Goodwin have combined to lead the Seahawks' offense in 2012 with 10 points (four goals, two assists) apiece.
The Seahawks have had three goalkeepers split time in the cage this season. Sam Williams got the start in goal on Wednesday for UNCW, earning his third win of the season.
Patrolling The box
Senior goalkeeper
Oliver Blum has been a force for the Huskies in net this season. He leads the conference in both goals against average (0.54) and save percentage (.857), and has not allowed more than one goal in any match all season.
The North Yarmouth, Maine native has had two shutout streaks of more than 200 minutes this season, and is currently eighth in the nation in goals against average.
Huskies in the polls
Northeastern is currently receiving votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll for the second time this season. NU is also ranked fourth in the South Atlantic region of the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll.
Home sweet home
Parsons Field proved to be a friendly venue to the Huskies in 2011 as NU went a perfect 7-0-0 at home. NU was the only team in the CAA to finish the season with no losses or ties at home.
The Huskies have continued their winning ways this season by winning their first six home matches, and has not lost at Parsons Field since November 6, 2010.
The road ahead
NU will head back on the road next week against Towson on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before returning to Parsons Field for Senior Day against George Mason on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m.
