After getting behind early, Northeastern (12-7) scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Boston College (9-14) 12-11 at Friedman Diamond Tuesday afternoon.

After not starting the game, junior catcher John Puttress singled home the tying run and later scored on a wild pitch for the winning run. Freshman shortstop Jason Vosler had three hits on the day including two triples and sophomore Oliver Hart made his first appearance on the mound and came away with the victory.

Matt Cook made his fourth start of the season on the mound for the Huskies, and struggled, allowing seven runs on seven hits over three innings.

Eagles starter Steve Green didn't last long either, going two and two-thirds and surrendering five runs on six hits.

Vosler hit a one-out triple down the right field line and was brought home to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead when Alex McKeon hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

Cook held Boston College scoreless in the first two innings but hit trouble in the third, allowing seven runs to the Eagles offense. After walking the first two hitters and allowing a single through the left side to load the bases, Cook walked in a run, and struggled to get outs the rest of the inning. By the time John Hennessy grounded out to second to end the inning, the score was 7-1 BC.

After a tough inning, Northeastern responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Connor Lyons, Aaron Barbosa and Michael Foster each hit opposite field singles to load the bases with no outs for senior captain Matt Miller. Miller worked a walk to bring home a run and cut the lead to 7-2. Jon Leroux then brought Barbosa home to make it 7-3 with a sacrifice fly to center field for the first out of the inning. Next, freshman Rob Fonseca was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Vosler. The shortstop was able to come through, poking one into center field to bring Foster and Miller around to score and cut the lead to 7-5.

Alex McKeon flew out to left field for the second out of the inning, but Tucker Roeder kept things alive, working a walk to load the bases. Lyons made his second appearance of the inning at the plate, as the Eagles pulled starting pitcher Steve Green in favor of Nate Bayuk. Bayuk struck out Lyons to end the inning.

Cook allowed a leadoff single to start the fourth and Northeastern decided to end the sophomore's day in favor of Matthew Goreham, who forced Travis Ferrick to ground into a double play and Tom Bourdon to ground out to second to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Foster roped a one-out triple down the right field line, his third of the season and was brought home when Miller lifted one into right field for a sacrifice fly, to move the Huskies within a run, 7-6.

Just when the Huskies were within one run, BC scored four more in the fifth off Goreham to push the lead back to 11-6.

But as was the case when they got down in the third, Northeastern was able to respond in the bottom of the inning. Vosler led off the home half of the fifth with his second triple of the game, this time to right center field and McKeon wasted no time driving Vosler home once again with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 11-7. After a pitching change brought in John Gorman, the Huskies went down in order to end the inning.

Sean Lyons came in for the sixth and seventh, allowing two runners to reach base in each inning, but ended both frames without any damage. Lyons started the eighth and got out the only batter he faced, but was then replaced by sophomore Oliver Hart, who struck out Anthony Melchionda and got Andrew Lawrence to fly out to right field to end the inning.

Northeastern threatened in the eighth when Barbosa beat out an infield single and stole second, but Foster fouled out to right field to end the inning.

Hart stayed in the game and pitched a scoreless ninth inning. In total, he got out all five hitters he faced over an inning and two-thirds with two strikeouts to pick up his first career win.

In the bottom of the ninth, Miller and Leroux led things off with singles to left field, giving the Huskies two on with no out. Fonseca then singled through the left side, loading the bases for Vosler who hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Miller. That brought McKeon up with two on and one out and the freshman delivered the biggest hit of his short Husky career, hitting a double to deep right center field to plate two runs and once again bring the Huskies within one run, 11-10. Pete Castoldi came on to pinch run for McKeon and Puttress, who came into the game for Roeder in the eighth, singled into center field on the first pitch he saw. Castoldi came around to score and tie the game.

After a single by Connor Lyons moved Puttress to third and Barbosa was intentionally walked to load the bases, Puttress came home with the winning run on a wild pitch by Kyle Prohovich. It was the second consecutive year Northeastern defeated the Eagles on a wild pitch.

The Huskies will now look to carry its momentum into a weekend series with the VCU Rams. The series will be the first CAA contests played at Friedman Diamond in 2012. Friday's game will get underway at 3 p.m.
