HARRISONBURG, Va. – After falling behind 1-0 just 3:07 into the match, the Northeastern men's soccer team (4-4-2, 1-0-0) responded with two goals in three minutes to open CAA play with a 2-1 victory at James Madison on Sunday afternoon.

Dante Marini and Terence Carter each netted goals for the Huskies, while sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Faber made five saves in goal, including two in the second half. Shots were even at 11 apiece for the game, while NU generated four corner kick opportunities to JMU's two.

The Dukes bolted out to an early 1-0 lead with a fourth minute goal from Steven Mashinski, his second of the season. With Mashinski controlling the ball, Faber ran out in an attempt to break up the play, but Mashinski was able to sneak the ball behind him for the score.

NU would answer just 48 seconds later as Marini netted his third goal of the season on a header in the box. After Mike Lobben ran the ball downfield, he sent a cross into the box to Marini, who finished it off to level the score at one.

Northeastern took the lead exactly three minutes after the Marini tally when Carter buried his third goal of the season. Marini began the play with a rocket on goal that James Madison goalkeeper Bill Groben (three saves) got a piece of, but the rebound came right out to Carter who knocked it home for a 2-1 NU lead.

Following the Carter goal, JMU began to create pressure on the Northeastern defense, but Faber came up with a pair of saves within two minutes to keep the Huskies in the lead. At the other end of the field, Carter controlled NU's corner kicks during the day with three straight within a span of six minutes late in the half, but the Huskies could not extend their lead.

Both teams had five shots during a physical second half that saw five yellow cards, including four to Northeastern (Conner Alexander, Carter, Marini, Marc Greenblatt), but the defenses stood their ground in an attempt to keep their squads in the game.

The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday when Hofstra visits Parsons Field for a 6 p.m. game in a rematch of last season's CAA championship bout.
