Rhode Island recorded a 4-0 surge, topped with a layup from the left side, to take its first lead of the night, 19-18. NU would not back down as Mercier landed her first shot from behind the arc before two consecutive layups to take its largest spread of the game, 27-21.
With 30 seconds left in the first half, URI evened the contest for the fourth time after adding two free throws, but a driving layup from Sally closed the half with NU ahead, 29-27.
Neither team budged in the early goings of the second half as the frame was tied three times in the first five minutes. With the score even at 36-36, Mark landed a layup and a 3-pointer to push the Huskies up, 41-36, but Rhody fought back to knot it up once again, 45-45.
URI used a 9-2 run to gain its largest advantage of the contest, 54-48. Trailing by six, NU strung together a free throw and a 3-pointer to invade the Ram's cushion and eventually regain its final lead after a layup from Tunstull, 60-57.
