NEWARK, Del. –The Northeastern field hockey team will advance to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship after defeating Drexel, 2-0, in the conference semifinals at Delaware's Rullo Stadium on Friday night.
Drexel outshot the Huskies 7-5 as both teams posted just five shots on goal apiece throughout the contest. 
Becky Garner, who earned conference All-Rookie honors prior to postseason play, had five saves on the night.
In the 16th minute of the first half, Northeastern earned the first penalty corner of the game as 
Emmy Zweserijn's shot was blocked by Drexel's Allyson Fuller to keep the game even at zero. Shortly after, the Dragon's responded with a corner of their own, but a huge save from Garner allowed 
Zoe Kale to clear the ball out of the circle. 
With less than eight minutes left on the clock, the Huskies took their second corner of the night, but the ball was cleared to keep the game scoreless entering halftime.
Northeastern wasted no time in the second half as 
Kelly Dunn tipped in her third goal of the season after taking a feed from 
Natalie Stewart in the 48th minute of the contest.
Less than four minutes later, the Huskies extended their lead, 2-0, off the stick of Zweserijn after penalty corner and a pass from 
Caroline Judge. The Dragons did everything they could to push points with two shots on goal and earning a penalty corner in the final minutes, but Northeastern held Drexel scoreless for the remainder of the game.
With the win, the Huskies advance to the conference championship to take on host and top-seeded Delaware at Rullo Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
