Northeastern came out of the gates in the first period looking to set the tone early, and did just that by outshooting Maine 14-3 and netting two goals to take a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.
The Huskies, who maintained puck possession in the Black Bear zone for a majority of the frame, jumped out to a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the contest as

Rachel Llanes, and beat a sprawling Ott for a 1-0 NU lead.
Less than three minutes later, Northeastern made it 2-0 as
Colleen Murphy took the puck from below the goal line and fired a shot on goal that Ott got a piece of. Murphy, however, crashed the net in search of her own rebound, and buried the loose puck for her third goal of the season.
At the other end, the Husky defense limited Maine's chances with several blocked shots in the first, while Desjardins handled all three Black Bear shots she faced in the stanza.
NU continued to dictate the style of play in the second period, adding two more goals and holding a 17-7 edge in shots on goal during the frame. The Huskies made it 3-0 just 1:09 into the frame when Coyne took a pass from
Paige Savage in the neutral, split the defense and snuck a low shot under Ott on a breakaway for her 32nd goal of the season.
With Northeastern on the power play midway through the stanza, Llanes added her 11th goal of the year when she took a feed from
Casey Pickett, did a quick toe-drag in front of the crease and snapped a shot past Ott for the score.
Coyne would add her second goal of the game, and fourth of the weekend, midway through the third period when she sent a rocket from the right faceoff dot over the shoulder of Ott for her 100 career point.
Maine would spoil the shutout bid 15 seconds after the Coyne tally when Rachel Bellio knocked home a rebound off a shot from Kelly McDonald for her second goal of the season.
The Huskies regained its five-goal advantage with 9:05 left in regulation when
Kelly Wallace sent a backhand past Ott from in between the hashmarks.
Maine took advantage of its lone power play of the afternoon with 5:14 left in regulation when she buried a loose puck off a blocked shot from the point to record her second goal of the season to make it 6-2.
Esposito would close out the scoring for the Huskies with 1:14 left in the third period when she redirected a centering pass from
