PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Northeastern made its 2013 Snowbird Baseball Classic debut in style on Friday, belting out 12 hits in a dominating 10-3 performance over Chicago St. Captain Chris Carmain earned the win for the Huskies, pitching five solid innings of work, striking out four without issuing a walk. At the Nos. 2 and 3 spots in the order, Michael Foster (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs) and Jason Vosler (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) powered the Red and Black's offense in the win.

The first inning started off big for the Huskies (3-4, 0-0 CAA), who put three quick runs on the board. After a Foster single, Vosler reached on an error to put two men on with no one out. Rob Fonseca made Chicago St. pay for their mistake by sending a double into left field, which brought home Foster. Even though Vosler was held up at third, a passed ball allowed the sophomore to scoot home for NU's second score. Brad Burcroff furthered the Huskies' cause with a single shot to right, scoring Fonseca to make it 3-0 right away.

Both team's offenses stalled until the Cougars tacked on their first score of the day after a wild pitch and an errant throw in the top of the fourth inning. CSU made a game of things an inning later when two runs came in to tie things at 3-3.

But the Huskies kept their bats swinging and reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame. Foster reached on a catcher's interference, and subsequently was sent to third after a Vosler blooper to right. During Fonseca's at bat, another passed ball led to an NU score, this time sending Foster home and Vosler to second. Connor Lyons secured another run for the Huskies, singling to center, bringing Vosler home to make it 5-3.

Both clubs made pitching changes in the sixth, but it was Northeastern that took advantage. Leading off the inning, Sean Lyons belted a double to right center to start the scoring train. Pete Castoldi was plunked in the elbow, allowing him a free trip to first. Foster wasted no time with his next at bat, driving one deep into the outfield, hustling out a two-RBI triple to make it 7-3. Vosler then put things out of reach for the Cougars with a sac fly to right, sending Foster home for another score.

Matt Cook, who came in for the Huskies in the beginning of the sixth, finished off the seventh inning retiring his sixth of seven batters faced with a three-up, three-down inning. Mike Fitzgerald came in for Cook an inning later and performed just as well, after settling down.

In the bottom of the eighth, NU added two more runs, thanks to a nifty double steal by Aaron Barbosa and Pete Castoldi. Castoldi had singled, followed by an error to allow Barbosa to stay on first. After the double-steal, Foster grounded out to second, but it scored Castoldi and put Barbosa in at third. Vosler finished the job by singling to center, knocking in the Huskies' 10th run of the day.

Fitzgerald, the freshman making his fourth appearance on the season, struck the last two Cougars out to end the game with the Huskies ahead, 10-3. Northeastern returns to the diamond Saturday to face Western Michigan for an early, 10:30 a.m. start time.
