BROOKLINE, Mass. -- In the 114th meeting between Northeastern and Harvard, this year's edition coming in the first round of the 2013 Baseball Beanpot Tournament, the Huskies (20-13, 7-8 CAA, ) downed the Crimson (6-22, 3-5 IVY), 10-2, advancing to the finals at Fenway Park.

The Huskies started off on a tear, collecting three runs in the opeining inning, two of which came with no outs. Aaron Barbosa (3-for-5, 2 R, RBI) led off with a single through the left side and eventually came around after a double from Jason Vosler (2-for-5, 2 R). Brad Burcroff (1-for-3, R, 2 RBI) was hit by a pitch and scored before Vosler also did after a single from Rob Fonseca (2-for-4, RBI) to highlight the frame.

James Mulry (2-0), earning his second career start at NU, quickly got into his stride after allowing a hit in the first, striking out the side to end the top of the second. But Jordan Haviland settled in as well, sitting the Huskies down in order to move into the third. In the top of the inning, DJ linked grabbed a leadoff single, and came all the way around to score in the next at bat after an error on a sacrifice bunt from Jeff Hadjin, who made it all the way to third on the errant throw. But even with a man on third an no outs, Mulry got out of the inning unscathed, adding his fourth strikeout of the day in the process.

Vosler led off the home half of the third with a single to left and Connor Lyons brought him home two batters later on a lengthy triple to left-center field to make it 4-1 in the Huskies favor -- but the Red and Black bats weren't done. NU scored four more in the frame, starting after Justin Kessler (1-for-2, 1R, 1RBI) drew a walk. With three of the next four batters grabbing base knocks, the Huskies extended their lead to 9-1 heading into the fourth inning.

The Huskies tacked on another run in the fifth, with singles from John Puttress (2-for-4, 2 R) and Barbosa setting the table before Burcroff reached on an error. The error scored Puttress, giving NU a 10-1 midway through the contest.

Meanwhile, Mulry continued to mow through the Crimson lineup. The rookie reached the seventh inning, allowing just six hits and a walk, before striking out the side in his final inning of work to put an exclamation point on his phenonemal outing. On the day, he finished with a career-high eight strikeouts, allowing just a single unearned run to lower his season ERA to a minuscule 1.40 on the year, with wins in both his starts.

The Crimson finally found offensive success against the Husky bullpen, after Michael Murphy relieved Mulry in the eigth inning. After the senior righthander fanned Mitch Klug as the first batter he faced, Brandon Kregel welcomed Murphy to the bump with a rocket home run to left field, pulling HU within eight. That would be the closest the Crimson would get, despite sending five more baserunners aboard against Murphy and then Matt Cook in the ninth inning.

Northeastern's win will send the Huskies to the Beanpot finals to face the winner of Massachusetts and Boston College on April 29 at Fenway Park.
