RICHMOND, Va. – Once again, Northeastern used late inning heroics against Richmond, but this time the Huskies (21-14, 7-8 CAA) came out on top, defeating the Spiders (22-11, 6-3 A10), 12-5, following seven runs in the final two innings for the Red and Black at the plate.

Aaron Barbosa had a career day for Northeastern, going 3-for-5 a run scored and five RBI. Brad Burcroff (3-for-5, 2RBI), Michael Foster (2-for-5, 3R, 1RBI), John Puttress (2-for-4, 1R) and Pete Castoldi (4-for-5, 3R, 2RBI) all found tremendous success on offense today, vaulting the Huskies to a series-evening win against Richmond.

Sophomore Nick Berger yielded five runs on nine hits to the Spiders, but held on for 6.2 innings of work with five strikeouts. Freshman Brad McLean earned his first win of the year, pitching a third of an inning and striking out a batter. Senior Dylan Maki came on in the eighth to close the game out, hurling two scoreless innings of work.

After an explosive Friday matchup, neither side got things started on the scoreboard until Richmond struck in the bottom of the third. The Spiders grabbed three hits and scored three runs in the frame to take another early lead over the Huskies, 3-0, but Northeast quickly found its stride an inning later.

Connor Lyons (0-for-3, 2R) drew leadoff walk and eventually came around to score four batters later, thanks to a Casotildi double down the left field line. Castoldi's line also  plated Foster, which made the score, 3-2. Two more runs were welcomed across for the Huskies after singles from both Barbosa and Burcroff, making it 4-3 in NU's favor into the bottom of the fourth.

An inning later, the Huskies added another run thanks to Michael Foster's second home run in as many games. The sophomore sent a deep ball over the center field wall to give Northeastern a 5-3 advantage. But Richmond attacked again in the seventh inning, tying the game with two runs on three hits, both scores coming with two outs in the frame.

With things knotted at 5-5, the Huskies took over in the eighth. Puttress kicked things off with a one-out single to center, quickly advancing to third after a Castoldi double. Barbosa pushed both runners across with his second hit of the day, giving NU a 7-5 lead. An inning later, the Huskies put the game away with a five-run ninth, which included five hits. Justin Kessler (1-for-5, 1R, 1RBI), Josh Treff (0-for-1, 1RBI), Castoldi and Barbosa all drove home runners with base knocks, vaulting NU to a 12-5 win to even the series. The two will play a rubbermatch tomorrow.
