BROOKLINE, Mass. – Kevin Ferguson led the way for the Huskies on the mound, recording 10 strikeouts over nine innings of work, but Georgia State used two well-timed home runs to squeeze by Northeastern, 2-1. The Huskies move to 23-17 on the season, 8-10 in CAA play.

After Ferguson retired the side with three strikeouts in the top of second, Northeastern went to work at the plate. Jason Vosler (2-for-4, 1R) skied a popup in the infield, but three Panthers let it drop, giving the NU sophomore the first of his two hits on the day. Vosler came all the way around after a hit and run followed by a smoking single by John Puttress (1-for-2); Vosler held up at third on the play, but a throwing error from Mark Hogan allowed him to scoot home for the game's first run.

Ferguson struck out Josh Merrigan for the second time of the game to leadoff the third, but GSU evened things up in the next at-bat, however, thanks to a deep solo shot from Chad Prain, the Panthers' only hit of the inning.

Both pitchers continued to duel well into the seventh with a 1-1 tie, each thwarting the opposing bats with quick work on the mound -- until Georgia State struck again. Merrigan sent a two-out blast to left field to give the Panthers their first lead of the day at 2-1. For his part, Fessler kept the Huskies at bay the rest of the way, retiring the final 13 Northeastern batters of the afternoon to let the Panthers escape with the 2-1 victory and the series win over the Huskies.

Northeastern will continue play Monday at 5 p.m., when the Huskies face Massachusetts for the 2013 Baseball Beanpot championship.
