SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Aaron Barbosa had a field day against Bryant, picking up four hits and delivering his fair share of spectacular plays in right, but a four-run fifth inning doomed Northeastern (24-18, 8-10 CAA) as the Huskies fell to the Bulldogs, 10-3, on Tuesday afternoon.

Northeastern got its shots in early and smashed 11 hits on the day, including a second-pitch home run from Brad Burcroff in the first inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Bulldogs' 10 runs on 13 hits.

After Burcroff sent his second home run of the season over the wall in left center, the Huskies grabbed another run in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Sean Lyons, plating brother Connor Lyons from second after his single through the right side. The hit was S. Lyons' second of the season and second RBI in as many days.

Senior Michaud eventually settled in for the Bulldogs, however, striking out six of nine Husky batters over a span of three innings through the fourth. On the opposite side of the scorecard, Northeastern freshman Nick Cubarney held strong for much of the game's opening innings. Cubarney struck out a career-high six batters in his 5.0 innings of work, but the last of those proved to be the difference-maker for Bryant.

Following a leadoff strikeout by Claire to open up the frame, three singles, a fielder's choice and a two-out RBI double from Brown quickly pushed four runners across for the Bulldogs, who took a rapid, 4-2 lead as the fifth inning came to a close. Cubarney regained, however, getting St. George to go swinging to end the inning before the Bulldogs batted around the order.

Freshman Brad McLean was sent in to relieve Cubarney to start the sixth, but Bryant pushed its sixth run of the afternoon across after Anderson sent a booming two-out double, bringing Gabbot around from first on the play.

The top of the seventh featured another run for Northeastern. Catcher Josh Treff snuck a grounder up the middle, advancing to second thanks to a successful bunt from Aaron Barbosa, his third base hit of the day. Vosler grounded out to second to record the second out of the inning, but Treff came around a batter later after a Michaud wild pitch to make it 6-3 in Bryant's favor.

But the Bulldogs had another big inning in the home-half of the inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the home club, and two more walks and an RBI single brought three more runners across to make it 9-3 in the late stages of the contest.

One last run in the bottom of the eighth put the contest all but out of reach for Northeastern, who fell to 24-18 on the season with the loss. The Huskies will take advantage of a few days rest after a grueling five games in five days, before the club treks down to Wilmington, N.C., for a three-game series with UNCW starting Friday at 6 p.m.
