HARRISONBURG, Va. – Once again, Northeastern's CAA baseball tournament hopes came down to the final out at Veterans Memorial Park, as NU battled with Delaware in the first elimination game, but this time the Huskies came away victorious. Jason Vosler lined the game-winning single through the right side of the field, plating both Pete Castoldi and Will Dougherty to keep the season alive, capping a four-run ninth inning to down Delaware, 7-6.

Vosler -- who is having one of the better tournaments in the field, batting .700 (7-for-10) with five runs and three RBI in two games -- had a game-high three hits in the win.

Northeastern's offense was paced by multi-hit outings from Vosler (3-for-5, 2 RBI, R), as well as John Puttress (2-for-4, RBI, R) and Sean Lyons (2-for-4). Vosler's two RBIs helped drive in Northeastern's seven runs, and the Huskies also got a pair of from Rob Fonseca (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, R). Michael Foster (1-for-3, RBI, R), Puttress, and Dougherty (1-for-4, RBI, R) drove in runs as well for NU. Delaware's offense was paced by a 3-for-5, 2 RBI effort from Nick Ferdinand, including a two-run home run in the fifth, and two-hit efforts from CAA Player of the Year Jimmy Yezzo and Tyler Powell.

The Huskies gave the ball to their ace, Kevin Ferguson, in the elimination game, and the senior southpaw battled through 6.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits, while striking out four and walking one. Adam Davis toed the rubber for the Blue Hens, going eight innings, surrendering five runs (all earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Davis was relieved by Erick Buckland, who took the loss for the Hens after allowing two runs in two thirds of an inning. Stephen Richter was actually UD's final pitcher, facing one batter and serving up the game-winning base knock.

Northeastern received a heroic bullpen performance from Foster (2-1), who moved from second base to the mound in the seventh inning and hurled 2.1 innings, allowing a run on four hits to go along with four strikeouts and a walk to pick up his second win of the season.

The Huskies took the game's first lead in the bottom of the opening frame. Aaron Barbosa led things off drawing a hit by pitch, and Brad Burcroff followed with a walk. Vosler -- after a tremendous 4-for-5 day at the plate against Towson -- drove one deep to center, moving Barbosa up a station. Foster sent him home in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly.

Ferguson continued on striking out three Blue Hens over a pair of innings to keep the Delaware bats at bay. After Northeastern was retired for the second straight inning, however, UD dented the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the fourth. A double by Ferdinand and an error in Stoltzfus' at-bat led to the tying run. The Blue Hens pounced for more after a pair of seeing-eye singles brought Lopes home for the second run. One more came across after the fourth hit of the inning brought Powell home to make it 3-1 into the bottom of the fourth.

Vosler represented the Huskies' first hit of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning, grabbing his fourth-straight leadoff hit of the CAA Tournament. Foster doubled down the left field line to put two on with no outs, and then Fonseca nearly beat out a throw from third to make it three hits in a row, but the out produced a run. Puttress continued the hot inning in the next at-bat, bringing Foster home with a single up the middle to make it 3-3 before a double play ended the frame quickly.

Delaware caught fire again in the next frame as Ferdinand collected his third hit of the afternoon with a two-run home run to give the Hens a 5-3 lead in a flash. Davis kept the Northeastern bats at bay, while Delaware kept threatening throughout the seventh. Ferguson gave up a pair of singles and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases, forcing a change as Foster made his way to the mound with two outs. Foster struck out the pinch hitter Mottle to get out of the jam and keep the Blue Hens off the board.

Foster continued to halt the Blue Hens at the plate, striking out four in his 2.1 innings of work, but UD snuck in a run via an RBI walk by Branigan in the top of the ninth inning. In the bottom of the frame, with the Huskies down to their last three outs, Fonseca belted a leadoff home run -- his fifth of the year -- to cut the lead to 6-4.

Puttress followed with a single of his own, and Buckland then relieved Davis after eight plus innings of work. Buckland coaxed a fly out from Lyons, before Castoldi and Dougherty followed with back-to-back base hits. Dougherty's single scored Puttress, slimming the margin to 6-5.

After Barbosa popped out, Burcroff drew a two-out walk to load the bases. With Vosler up and no open bases, Delaware made another move, bringing Richter on to face NU's sophomore shortstop. Vosler coolly bounced a base hit through the right side, easily scoring Castoldi, and Ferdinand's throw to the plate couldn't get a diving Dougherty chugging around from second as the Huskies claimed the improbable walk-off win.

With the victory, fifth-seeded Northeastern stays alive in the CAA Championship, and third-seed Delaware is eliminated. The Huskies next opponent will be determined following the outcome of the rest of today's contests, and tentatively will take place at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
