BOSTON – The Northeastern women's soccer team opened the 2013 season with a 4-0 loss at No. 5 UCLA Friday night.
The Bruins (1-0) got off to a quick start by scoring three goals in the game's first 16 minutes, but the Northeastern (0-1) defense was solid for the rest of the game.
UCLA opened the scoring in the first half when Gabbi Miranda's corner kick service snuck directly under the crossbar and into the back of the net in the third minute.Â
Rosie White gave the Bruins a 2-0 cushion when she scored off her own rebound in the eighth minute, and a goal by Darian Jenkins in the 16th minute put UCLA ahead 3-0.
Northeastern junior goalkeeper Paige Burnett, a preseason Colonial Athletic Association honorable mention, recorded six saves against a talented Bruins team that features a pair of 2012 Olympians in White and Chelsea Stewart.
The only blemish against the Husky defense through the last 74 minutes of the game was a goal by Jenna Richmond in the second half.
The Huskies will stay in Los Angeles to play Loyola Marymount on Sunday, Aug. 25. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (EDT).
