PROVIDENCE – Sophomore goalkeeper
Dylan Faber made four saves in backstop as the Northeastern men's soccer team (2-1-2) battled to a scoreless draw against Providence on Saturday afternoon at Glay Field.
The Friars held a slight 16-12 edge in shots during the match (4-3 shots on goal), as well as a 4-3 advantage in corner chances.
Northeastern went on the hunt for an early advantage from the start of the match, recording the first four shots on goal, including three from senior
Dante Marini. The Providence defense, however, was able to limit NU's significant scoring opportunities and force several of the Huskies shots' wide.
PC began to generate a few chances of its own midway through the opening 45 minutes, sending two shots on goal, but Faber was there to make the saves and send the teams into halftime in a scoreless tie.
Coming out of intermission, Marini continued to fire away in an attempt to put NU on top, including consecutive shots on goal in the first five minutes of the second half that Broome was able to handle.
The teams would continue to trade chances as the half wore on, with Faber coming up with a big save on Fabio Machado with less than three minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Things got physical during the first overtime period, with the Friars picking up two yellow cards in a span of three minutes. PC, however, also had back-to-back corner chances late in the frame, including one that resulted in a shot over the crossbar from Dominik Machado.
Providence earned another corner late in the second overtime, but found a similar result as Nick Sailor's shot was sent wide.
The Huskies will be back in action on Tuesday when Northeastern travels to Boston University for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Terriers.
