Box Score HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Northeastern women's soccer team suffered its first loss in CAA play on Saturday in a 1-0 setback at Hofstra.
In a matchup of the top-ranked CAA offense (Hofstra) vs. the top-ranked CAA defense (Northeastern), the Pride were able to convert on a second-half corner kick to snap the Huskies' five-game winning streak.Â
In the 65th minute, Hofstra's Jeannine Molleda played a corner into the box that was flicked toward the net by Chloe Dale. Emily Hulbert then got another touch on the ball with her head to redirect it past NU goalkeeper
Paige Burnett for the decisive tally. The goal was the first conceded by Northeastern in the second half this season and brought an end to the Huskies' shutout streak at 514 consecutive minutes.Â
Northeastern (9-4-2, 4-1-0 CAA) attempted 12 shots in the game, but only placed one on target, a 39th-minute blast from sophomore
Kimberly Slade that was stopped by Hofstra keeper Friederike Mehring. The Huskies also hit the crossbar in the first half when redshirt freshman
Taylor Caparo's shot beat Mehring, but struck the woodwork and stayed out.
After Hofstra (8-6-0, 3-2-0 CAA) went ahead, the Huskies mounted one last late charge when redshirt sophomore
Breeana Koemans found sophomore
Mackenzie Dowd on a corner kick, but Dowd's attempt missed the target with less than a minute to play.
Northeastern will look to bounce back next weekend with a pair of road games against UNCW (Friday, 7 p.m.) and College of Charleston (Sunday, 1 p.m.).
