ERIE, Pa. -- The Northeastern women's hockey team (0-0-2) will look to pick up its first wins of the 2014-15 season this weekend when it travels to Mercyhurst for a pair of games against the No. 8/10 Lakers.

LONG TIME, NO SEE
Northeastern will face Mercyhurst this weekend for the first time in 13 years. The teams last met on Oct. 13, 2001 in a 2-0 Huskies win at Matthews Arena. The previous season, Northeastern made its only prior trip to Erie, Pa., taking two games from the Lakers to open the 2000-01 campaign. In three all-time meetings, the Huskies have outscored the Lakers by a 7-2 margin.

SCOUTING THE  LAKERS
No. 8/10 Mercyhurst is off to a 3-0-1 start against teams from Hockey East. The Lakers swept Providence by scores of 3-0 and 2-0 to open the year, before earning a win (1-0) and a tie (2-2) against Maine last weekend. Emily Janiga and Jenna Dingeldein lead the team with five points apiece, while goaltender Amanda Makela boasts a 0.49 GAA and a .975 save percentage through four games. After winning the CHA regular season title in 2013-14, the Lakers were picked as co-favorites along with Robert Morris in the 2014-15 preseason coaches' poll.

STALEMATES TO START
For the first time in program history, the Huskies opened a season with two ties after playing to draws against Syracuse (1-1) and RIT (2-2) last weekend. In the 35-year history of the program, Northeastern has opened a season with a tie just four times, including a 4-4 stalemate against Syracuse to open the 2010-11 campaign.

TOURING THE CHA CIRCUIT
The Huskies open the 2014-15 season with six straight road contests against opponents from College Hockey America (CHA). Northeastern is 21-2-4 all-time against current members of the CHA, holding a 3-0-0 record against Mercyhurst, a 2-1-2 mark against Syracuse, a 13-0-1 record vs. RIT, and a 3-1-1 edge against Robert Morris. Northeastern has never faced Penn State or Lindenwood in program history.

ROAD WARRIORS
Northeastern will play its first eight games away from Matthews Arena in 2014-15, tying for the second-longest road trip in program history. In 2000-01, the Huskies also played eight straight games away from home and posted a 1-6-1 record during the trip. Northeastern's longest road trip came during the 1982-83 season, when the Huskies played 10 straight games on the road and went 7-3-0 during the span.

FRESHMAN FIRSTS
Three freshmen registered their first collegiate points last weekend against Syracuse and RIT. On Friday against the Orange, rookie Lauren Kelly earned the primary assist on Kendall Coyne's game-tying goal in the second period. On Saturday at RIT, freshman McKenna Brand scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from fellow freshman Denisa Krizova. The class has accounted for three of the team's eight points so far this season.

SUCCESS IN THE SECOND
Through two games, Northeastern has scored all three of its goals in the second period and has outshot its opponents by a 37-11 margin in the frame. Conversely, the Huskies have been outscored, 2-0, and outshot, 37-32, in the other periods this season.

RIT RALLIES LATE TO TIE NORTHEASTERN
Goals by sophomore Hayley Masters and freshman McKenna Brand gave Northeastern a 2-0 lead over RIT in the second period, but the Tigers rallied late to  earn a 2-2 tie on Saturday, Oct. 11 in Rochester, N.Y. The Tigers scored on a 5-on-3 opportunity in the last minute of the second period to pull within a goal, and then equalized with an extra-attacker goal with less than a minute to play in the third period. Northeastern held a 40-25 edge in shots and scored its first power-play goal of the season when Brand lit the lamp for her first collegiate goal.

HUSKIES SKATE TO 1-1 TIE AT SYRACUSE
The Huskies opened the 2014-15 season with a 1-1 tie at Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 10. Junior Kendall Coyne scored her 64th career goal with a redirection off a Lauren Kelly point shot to bring the game level at 1-1 in the second period. The Huskies were outshot, 11-4, in the first period, but held the Orange to just 12 shots the rest of the game to finish with a 29-23 shot advantage.
