BOSTON -- Three crucial conference points are up for grabs on Saturday night when the Northeastern men's soccer team returns home to host No. 23 UNCW at Parsons Field at 6 p.m.

Last time out
Coming off two consecutive shutout wins to College of Charleston and Drexel last week, Northeastern had difficulty keeping Elon off the scoreboard on Saturday night, as the Phoenix cruised to a 5-0 win.

Elon's five goals are the most the Phoenix have scored all season, and are also the most Northeastern has allowed in a match since falling to Maryland, 5-0, on Sept. 5, 2010. The Huskies saw a dip in shots from 16 against Drexel on Wednesday to just seven against the Phoenix on Saturday, with only two of those shots winding up on goal.

Home cooking
Parsons Field has been friendly to the Huskies in recent years. Since the 2011 season, Northeastern is 22-6-1 (.776) at home, including a 3-2-0 mark this season. Here's a look at how the Huskies have fared at home:

2011: 7-0-0
2012: 8-0-1
2013: 4-4-0
2014: 3-2-0

Cardiac canines
The Huskies picked up their third overtime victory of the season last Wednesday against Drexel. Northeastern's overtime win improved the Huskies to 8-1-7 in overtime since the 2012 season. NU also has overtime wins at Stony Brook and against UMass Lowell this season. Northeastern three overtime victories this season are tied for the second most in program history, trailing only the 2012 campaign when NU won five games in extra time en route to the NCAA tournament.

Fountain delivers from distance
Husky freshman Brad Fountain buried his third goal of the season at Harvard on a 20-yard bullet. The Southampton, England native collected his first collegiate goal in similar fashion against UMass Lowell on Sept. 13, rocketing home a shot from 24 yards out to tie the match at one before netting his second of the season on another 20-yard strike on a free kick at Providence on Sept. 20.

Freshmen leading the charge
Northeastern has looked to its rookies to provide a spark in the attacking third this season. The Huskies have recorded 20 of the team's 34 points from rookies this season (seven goals, six assists), led by Frantzdy Pierrot. The Melrose, Massachusetts native is a two-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree, and has seven points this year (two goals, three assists).

Pierrot had a career-high three assists at Stony Brook on Sept. 28, marking the first time that a Husky has recorded three assists in a game since Greg Kilkenny accomplished the feat against Maine on Sept. 9, 2007.

Mpofu in the clutch
When Ackim Mpofu's number has been called this season, the freshman midfielder has delivered. Mpofu has two goals on the season, both of which coming in overtime against UMass Lowell and Drexel. The Bulawayo, Zimbabwe native is tied for fourth on the team this season with four points.

Right back at you
Trailing late in the match on against UMass Lowell, Northeastern potted a goal in the 89th minute to force overtime before Ackim Mpofu won it early in extra time. The two goals in a span of 2:46 marked the quickest that the Huskies have scored twice since the 2012 season, when NU netted a pair of goals in 1:26 against Holy Cross on Sept. 25. NU also knotted a match in the final minutes last week at Stony Brook at Christian McKenna buried the equalizer with less than six minutes left in regulation.

Huskies name 2014 captains
The Northeastern men's soccer team has chosen its leaders for the 2014 season. Seniors Jacob Aduama and Simon Cox, along with redshirt senior Ambry Moss, were selected as tri-captains for this season. This marks the second straight season that Cox will wear the armband, while Aduama and Moss have earned a captaincy for the first time. Moss and Cox have anchored a defensive line for Northeastern for the last three seasons, while Aduama has provided depth at goalkeeper and provided leadership both on and off the field.

The series with the Seahawks
UNCW holds a slim advantage in the all-time series with the Huskies, 4-5-2, including a 4-2 victory last season in Wilmington. Before last season, each of the last six matches between the two squads were decided by one goal or fewer.

Geographic diversity
The coaching staff has travelled across the globe to assemble the 2014 Huskies. Take a look at where this year's squad hails from:
• United States: 12
• Bahamas: 1
• Brazil: 1
• England: 3
• Finland: 1
• Scotland: 1
• South Africa: 1
• Spain: 1
• Sweden: 1
• Zimbabwe: 1

The road ahead
The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday when Northeastern travels to Delaware for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Blue Hens in a rematch of the 2013 CAA quarterfinals.
