BOSTON -- The Northeastern men's soccer team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday night when the Huskies travel to Charleston, S.C. to battle the College of Charleston in the CAA opener for both squads.

Last time out
Northeastern held Holy Cross (4-2-2) to just two shots on goal, but the Crusaders capitalized on a chance in the 59th minute to top the Huskies on a soggy Wednesday night at Parsons Field.

Joey DeVito scored the eventual game-winner with 31:40 left in regulation when he deflected a long entry pass from Ryan Gavey. Junior goalkeeper Dylan Faber made his third start of the season in goal for the Huskies, who outshot Holy Cross 9-7 during the match and earned six corners to the Crusaders' two.

Northeastern in CAA openers
Since joining the CAA in 2005, the Huskies have experienced success in their conference openers. NU is unbeaten in each of its last six opening league games (4-0-2), and is 4-2-3 overall in CAA openers.

During Northeastern's six-game unbeaten streak in the first game of the conference slate, the Huskies have outscored their opponents 10-5.

Fountain delivers from distance
Husky freshman Brad Fountain buried his third goal of the season last Tuesday on a 20-yard bullet. The Southampton, England native collected his first collegiate goal in similar fashion against UMass Lowell on Sept. 13, rocketing home a shot from 24 yards out to tie the match at one before netting his second of the season on another 20-yard strike on a free kick at Providence on Sept. 20.

Pierrot picks up weekly honors
After scoring a goal and adding three assists in two matches last week, freshman forward Frantzdy Pierrot was named the CAA Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. This marks the second time this season that the Melrose, Massachusetts native has taken home weekly conference honors.

Pierrot scored a goal at Harvard in a 3-2 setback on Tuesday before logging three assists at Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon. His performance against the Seawolves marked the first time that a Husky has recorded three assists in a game since Greg Kilkenny accomplished the feat against Maine on Sept. 9, 2007.

Pierrot leads the Huskies with seven points (two goals, three assists) this season, which is good for a tie for eighth in the CAA. He is also among the league leaders in assists (tied for third; three) and shots (third; 25).

Never too late
The Huskies picked up their second overtime victory of the season at Stony Brook last Sunday. Northeastern's overtime win improved the Huskies to 7-1-7 in overtime since the 2012 season.

Right back at you
Trailing late in the match on against UMass Lowell, Northeastern potted a goal in the 89th minute to force overtime before Ackim Mpofu won it early in extra time. The two goals in a span of 2:46 marked the quickest that the Huskies have scored twice since the 2012 season, when NU netted a pair of goals in 1:26 against Holy Cross on Sept. 25. NU also knotted a match in the final minutes last week at Stony Brook at Christian McKenna buried the equalizer with less than six minutes left in regulation.

Goo pots first career goal
Redshirt-senior forward Nick Goo picked a good time to record his first collegiate goal, poking home a loose ball during a scramble in the box to give the Huskies a victory in overtime at Stony Brook on Sunday. Goo is the fourth Husky this season to collect his first collegiate goal (Brad Fountain, Ackim Mpofu, Frantzdy Pierrot).

Huskies name 2014 captains
The Northeastern men's soccer team has chosen its leaders for the 2014 season. Seniors Jacob Aduama and Simon Cox, along with redshirt senior Ambry Moss, were selected as tri-captains for this season. This marks the second straight season that Cox will wear the armband, while Aduama and Moss have earned a captaincy for the first time. Moss and Cox have anchored a defensive line for Northeastern for the last three seasons, while Aduama has provided depth at goalkeeper and provided leadership both on and off the field.

The series with the Cougars
Northeastern and the College of Charleston will be meeting for just the second time on Saturday, with CofC leading the all-time series, 1-0-0. Last season, the Cougars spoiled Northeastern's Senior Night with a 1-0 victory on Nov. 2 at Parsons Field. NU outshot Charleston 12-4 (5-1 shots on goal), but a 74th minute goal from Xavier Rajpaul proved to be the difference.

Ainscough enters 10th season
Head coach Brian Ainscough is in his 10th season at Northeastern, becoming the longest tenured head coach in program history. He is 74-75-32 while on Huntington Avenue, and is second in team history in career victories at Northeastern (Ed Matz, 83).

During his time at NU, Ainscough has led the Huskies to three seasons with 10 or more wins, including the 2012 campaign that saw the Huskies capture the program's first-ever CAA championship and return to the national tournament for the first time since 2002.

Ainscough's squads have been known for their staunch defense over the last nine seasons. His teams have allowed 20 goals or fewer four times, while the 2012 (16 goals allowed) and 2013 (19 goals allowed) teams surrendered two of the lowest goals against totals in team history. Overall, Ainscough is 158-147-46 in 19-plus seasons as a head coach.
