TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Northeastern women's soccer team trailed No. 2 Florida State, 1-0, into the second half before two goals in quick succession handed the Seminoles a 3-0 victory over the No. 25 Huskies in the NCAA second round on Friday at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

"I was really happy with the way our team embraced the challenge of playing at Florida State," NU head coach Tracey Leone said after the game. "They have so many weapons at every position, and their depth is great. I was very pleased with the effort we put forth, holding them at 1-0 for as long as we could. It's a great experience for our team to play a team of the caliber of Florida State and to be able to build upon that for our future."

The Huskies (15-5-3) battled hard all night against a fast and physical Florida State team that improved to 20-1-1 this season and 33-1-0 all-time at home in the NCAA tournament. Cheyna Williams, Kirsten Crowley and Dagny Brynjarsdottir scored for the Seminoles, who advanced to the third round and a date with No. 16 UCF on Sunday.

Senior goaltender Paige Burnett made four saves, including a pair of outstanding stops on Brynjarsdottir in the opening 10 minutes. The first stop came on a point-blank chance in the center of the box, which Burnett was able to steer around the right post with a fingertip stop. Minutes later, Burnett kicked away a chance from the FSU All-American midfielder with a lunging save at the left post.

The Seminoles attempted 16 shots in the match and scored their first goal in the 18th minute on a pretty individual play by Williams. Off a feed from Crowley, Williams cut between two NU defenders on the left wing and ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the net to make it 1-0 FSU at 17:09. The goal–the first allowed by NU in the postseason–snapped the Huskies' shutout streak at 387:20.

The Huskies were able to frustrate the high-powered FSU attack for the remainder of the first half, and enjoyed a couple of solid scoring chances late in the frame. Freshman Kayla Cappuzzo placed a shot on goal with a left-footed attempt from the top of the box, but Seminoles' keeper Cassie Miller (three saves) was in position for the stop. Then, in the final minute of the half, NU was awarded a free kick from just outside the box, but the ensuing cross was cleared away.

The Seminoles went on the attack early in the second stanza and put the game away with two goals in a span of 1:21. On a Megan Campbell free kick from just inside the half, Crowley was able to bring the ball down in the box, before turning and firing a half-volley inside the right post to make it 2-0 at the 53:09 mark.

Just over 80 seconds later, Isabella Schmid crossed the ball from the right wing to a cutting Brynjarsdottir, who poked the ball home with a sliding finish in the center of the box.

Northeastern battled to the very end as freshman Carly Wilhelm tested Miller with a shot from the right wing in the waning minutes.

With the clock winding down, the Huskies brought on a number of substitutions, including seniors Amy Steele and Kelsey McCarthy, as well as junior Brittani Gardella.

The result ended a record-breaking season for Northeastern. Under the direction of the 2014 CAA Coach of the Year, Tracey Leone, the Huskies set single-season program records for most wins (15) and most shutouts (17). Burnett shattered the program record for most individual shutouts with 16, and concludes her outstanding collegiate career with 30 clean-sheets overall.
