Friday's Results

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Northeastern women's track and field freshman Lucy Young finished eighth in her flight, and 20th overall, in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Friday night at Hodges Stadium.

With weather delays throughout the second day of the regional meet, Young's race was pushed back nearly one hour before the rookie posted a time of 10:23.26 in the third and final flight of the evening.

Michigan State's Leah O'Connor won the preliminary heat with a time of 9:52.69 while Cornell's Rachel Sorna (9:52.88), Florida State's Pippa Woolven (9:54.24), Michigan's Alex Leptich (10:03.43) and Iona's Maya Rehberg (10:03.48) rounded out the top five. The top three finishers in each flight, along with the next three fastest times, advanced to the championship heat in Eugene, Oregon.

Young concludes a stellar rookie season that saw the Brisbane, Australia, native has rewrite Northeastern's record books three separate times during the 2014 outdoor season, posting new program-best marks in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Mark Young Invitational (10:35.16), CAA Championships (10:31.11) and the ECAC Championship (10:17.05). Young recorded a new personal-best time in the event on four separate occasions during the outdoor season and became the first Husky to earn steeplechase gold at the ECAC Championships.

Men's track and field senior Max Milder also competed on Friday in the hammer throw, but did not advance out of his flight. Sophomore Wesley Gallagher and junior Stephen Sollowin will close out regional action for the Huskies on Saturday night when the duo competes in the 5000-meter run at 8:05 p.m.
