BOSTON – Freshman Jordon Talley scored a career-high 21 points to lead hot-shooting UNCW to a 75-68 victory over Northeastern in CAA play Monday night at Matthews Arena.

The Seahawks (6-7, 1-1 CAA) shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) in the second half and 54.4 percent (31-of-57) for the game, while out-rebounding the Huskies (9-5, 1-1 CAA) by a 34-29 margin.

UNCW never trailed and took high-percentage shots all evening, scoring 42 of its 75 points in the paint, while attempting just three 3-pointers (2-for-3).

Addison Spruill tied a career-best with 20 points, while Freddie Jackson added 18 on 8-of-11 shooting to help UNCW snap a four-game losing streak and earn its second win at Matthews Arena in eight tries.

Junior David Walker paced four Northeastern players in double-figure scoring with 16 points, while senior Scott Eatherton posted his fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 boards. Junior Zach Stahl and redshirt junior Quincy Ford each added 10 points, while sophomore T.J. Williams chipped in eight points and four assists.

The Huskies shot 46.2 percent (24-for-52) on the night, but uncharacteristically struggled at the foul line, converting just 14 of 22 free throws.

Following a first half full of decisive runs, the Seahawks took a 34-31 edge into the locker room. UNCW opened the game on a 10-1 run until a mid-range jumper by Walker ignited a 10-2 Northeastern spurt to tie the game at 14-apiece eight minutes into the contest.

The Seahawks followed with a 9-0 run, highlighted by a layup and 3-pointer by Jackson, before Ford responded with five straight points to help bring NU back within one, 25-24, with 5:36 left in the half.

The Huskies stayed within one after Walker buried his second triple of the frame with 58 ticks showing on the clock, but a jumper by Talley pushed the UNCW advantage to three heading to the break.

Northeastern stayed within a bucket at 46-43 at the 11:38 mark of the second half, before succumbing to a five-minute cold stretch in which NU went scoreless and turned the ball over four times.

During the same span, UNCW went on a 9-0 run to go up 55-43 with just over six minutes to play.

Junior Caleb Donnelly did his best to bring the Red & Black back, drilling a pair of 3-pointers to pull the Huskies within seven, 69-62, with a minute to play.

Northeastern would get no closer, however, as the Seahawks salted the game away at the foul line to pick up their first CAA win of the season.

The Huskies will look to bounce back Thursday when they travel to James Madison for a CAA contest at 7 p.m.
