Quincy Ford, the Northeastern men's basketball team overturned a 10-point second half deficit to top James Madison, 65-59, on Thursday at the Convocation Center.
Ford scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half as the Huskies (10-5, 2-1 CAA) outscored the Dukes (9-7, 2-1 CAA) by a 44-29 margin after halftime to earn their third double-digit comeback of the season.
Northeastern dominated on the glass, out-rebounding JMU by a 41-20 margin. Senior
Scott Eatherton (13 points) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, to secure his 30th career double-double.
Ford and Eatherton were joined in double-figure scoring by junior
David Walker, who posted 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.Â
The Huskies converted 18-of-23 free throws (78.3 percent), led by Ford who knocked down seven of his nine foul shots.
Winston Grays paced JMU with 15 points, while Yohanny Dalembert (13 points) and Ron Curry (10 points) also reached double-figure scoring. The Dukes' leading scorer, Jackson Kent (11.3 points per game), was held to just three points, a last-second triple, on 1-of-4 shooting.
James Madison shot 55 percent (12-for-22) in the opening half to grab a 30-21 advantage at intermission. The Dukes scored eight points off 10 Northeastern turnovers and held NU to 38 percent shooting (8-for-21) in the first 20 minutes.
The Huskies scored their first four baskets of the game from beyond the 3-point arc, including a pair of triples from junior
Caleb Donnelly, to take a 12-9 lead at the 12-minute mark.Â
James Madison closed the half on a 21-9 run, however, as Dalembert led all scorers at the break with seven points.
Northeastern turned the tides with a 13-3 spurt early in the second half to pull within a point, 34-33, after a 3-pointer from Walker and a layup by Eatherton at the 14:48 mark.Â
The teams traded leads over the next six minutes, before the Huskies took control for good with a decisive 13-0 run.
Ford took over during the stretch, hitting a tough jumper from the foul line to put NU in front, 48-43, with 7:10 remaining, before capping the run with an NBA-range 3-pointer to make it 55-43 Huskies with 4:17 to play.
The NU defense held James Madison scoreless for six minutes while building the lead, before a Dalembert layup finally ended the run at the 3:54 mark.
The Huskies then went 10-for-12 at the foul line in the final four minutes to salt the game away and pick up their third straight win at JMU.Â
Northeastern will look to improve to 3-0 in CAA road contests on Saturday when it takes on Towson at 2 p.m. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet New England.
