NU turns in five first-place finishes in Harvard scrimmage

BOSTON – The Northeastern women's swimming and diving team hosted the Harvard Crimson at Barletta Natatorium on Saturday in a scrimmage meet during the university's Parents and Family Weekend.

The Huskies earned 18 top-three finishes in 13 of the 16 events, including five first place finishes. Last year, NU won four events against the Crimson.

"I was very impressed with how our student-athletes focused on the process and the challenge of racing and competing," said head coach Roy Coates. "Overall, it was a great learning experience."

The day was highlighted by Caroline Gonsalves' score in the 3-meter dive and 1-meter dive qualifying her for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in March 2016.

In the second event of the day, Christine Leong, Tove Bjork, Delaney Lanker and Kerry Treusdell won the 400-medley relay with a total time of 3:58.84.

Later, Sara Touchette-McGowan locked in first place in the 200 freestyle (1:53.59) and the 50 butterfly (26.05), while Taylor Ellis earned first place in the 50 breaststroke (30.23).

First-year Carly Schnabel posted a new personal record with NU in her second outing with the Red and Black. The Wrentham, Mass. native cruised to first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.38.

In the diving portion, Alyssa Seales made her season debut and took home third in the 3-meter dive.

The Crimson earned top performances from Katie Russ (3-meter dive), Regan Kology (1000 freestyle), Marissa Cominelli (50 backstroke), Geordie Enoch (50 breaststroke), Sonia Wang (200 butterfly, 400 IM), Victoria Chan (50 freestyle), Hannah Allchurch (1-meter dive), Kristina Li (200 backstroke), Daniella Johnson (200 breaststroke),

The Huskies will compete in their first road meet of the 2015 campaign against New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m.
